The team ended on a nineteen-game winning streak by beating Galveston's Ball High School for the State Championship. The team was led by Gary Heyland and Pat Hymel. Heyland was named MVP of the state tournament, First Team All State, and selected as the 1982 Texas High School Player of the Year. Hymel was selected first team All State. Rounding out the starting five were Jon Moseley, Jim Gallagher, and Paul Myers. Team member Tim Woods is now Head Coach at Churchill.
